A typical dictionary
definition of Intelligence is “the capacity to
acquire and apply knowledge.” Intelligence includes the ability to benefit from
past experience, act purposefully, solve problems, and adapt to new situations.
I.Q. tests are a
standardized psychometric test to measure ‘Intelligence Quotient’ (IQ) which is
a psychological indicator of one’s relative mental and cognitive abilities as
per their age. It is a test which helps one to assess and set intellectual
benchmarks.
Simply put, the IQ test
put very simply is a measure of human intelligence. There are certain questions
that need to be answered in a stipulated time to obtain the score that is then
compared to the norms established for that age. The IQ of the person is very
important to understand their general competence.
Intelligence can also
be defined as “the ability that intelligence tests measure.” There is a long
history of disagreement about what actually constitutes intelligence.
Thus, the IQ test is designed to be a
standardised test which helps in understanding various aspects:
Possibility for high
demanding jobs
Overall academic comfort
and level
Logical reasoning and
problem solving ability
Spatial and working memory
Consistency and
Perseverance
Processing Speed
Observational Skill
